Campus Roadshows

DWL is proud of the relationships it has developed with law schools. In 2019, DWL participated in a number of on-campus engagements as part of its University Roadshow Series, visiting Western Sydney University, University of Technology Sydney, University of Sydney and University of Wollongong.

The university roadshows involved panel discussions about the legal profession and the speakers’ journeys in the law, a Q&A session, and informal networking opportunities. This offered Diverse Women law students the invaluable opportunity of meeting and networking with DWL members who shared their personal and professional experiences as Diverse Women in the legal profession.

The questions touched on a lot of anxieties I have entering
the workplace about diversity, inclusion and opportunity
and rather than feeling discouraged, I left the session
empowered and ready to chase my legal dreams.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, DWL continued to engage with universities through virtual roadshows hosted on online platforms.

Roadshow with UNSW - 13 October 2020

Diverse Women in Law was proud to collaborate with UNSW Faculty of Law and UNSW Law Society to present a roadshow to explore the diverse career pathways, experiences of accomplished female leaders and professionals in the field. Panellists include The Honourable Justice Yehia SC, Roshan Evans, Kathryn Viegas, Nikita Harlalka and Keerthi Ravi.

From the very beginning of the discussion, all the panelists were so forthcoming with personal stories and advice. It was definitely the most insightful Q&A event I’ve ever attended. There were many compelling takeaways. The panelists expressed themselves authentically and did not shy away from addressing the hard stuff. I really appreciated hearing about how hard work cut through, finding mentors outside of your immediate environment, dealing with discouragement and what keeps you going, pursuing work that you’re passionate about, and the importance of backing yourself/asserting your voice. The panellists’ words definitely coloured my own perspective on my future, as I’m sure it did for all the MQ students
