The DWL Advocacy Program 2024
DWL, in collaboration with sponsor firms Corrs Chambers Westgarth, King & Wood Mallesons and Thomson Geer is excited to launch the 2024 Advocacy Program . This intervarsity initiative will comprise of a Moot and Witness Examination competition. It will provide an invaluable opportunity for students to develop professional skills, meet fellow diverse peers, and network with accomplished legal advocates. The key feature of this Program is the involvement of a Barrister Coach for each moot team and witness examination competitor.
This program provides students a one-of-a-kind opportunity to hone your advocacy skills, obtain coaching from barristers, interact with esteemed legal professionals including sitting judges and forge a network of diverse women advocates across the profession.
DWL students can participate in the Moot and Witness Examination competition. Participants are encouraged to attend the competition rounds as spectators.
Get ready to showcase your skills with research, written and oral submissions. Take on the role of a barrister, examining and cross-examining witnesses to build your case. But most of all, have fun and be inspired!
Program Components
2024 DWL Moot
(Preliminary Rounds: 24, 25 June and 1 July)
(Semi Final: 22 July)
The moot problem question focuses on civil law. Teams consist of 3 members and applications must be submitted by a team of 3. Applicants can be from any year of law (undergraduate or postgraduate) and preference will be given to students in the later stages of their degree. All team members must identify as Diverse Women.
DWL will provide each team with their own barrister coach to help students prepare in the weeks leading up to the competition.
Registrations open 17 April 2024 and close on 17 May 2024.
2024 DWL Witness Examination
(Preliminary Rounds: 2 and 4 July)
(Semi Final: 22 July)
The competition focuses on criminal law. Teams consist of 1 student who identifies as a Diverse Woman. Applicants must apply individually. Applicants can be from any year of law (undergraduate or postgraduate), however it is advised that students who completed courses in Criminal Law and Evidence apply.
DWL will provide each competitor with their own barrister coach to help them prepare in the weeks leading up to the competition.
